BRICS Plus Foreign Ministers Meeting To Take Place in Nizhny Novgorod

The foreign ministers of the BRICS countries will meet in Nizhny Novgorod in the summer of 2024. This was announced by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on 13th December at a government session of the Federation Council.
The Russian foreign minister also noted that Russia, as the chair of BRICS in 2024, plans to hold about 200 events.

"We expect to arrive at the summit of the association in Kazan in October next year with a solid set of proposals in the political, security, financial, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. We have planned about 200 events, including a dozen or more ministerial meetings," Lavrov said.

The summit of BRICS leaders will be held in Kazan in 2024. As Pavel Knyazev, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Russia's representative to BRICS, said in October, a list of candidate countries for new BRICS partners will be approved. According to the diplomat, preparations have already begun for the summit in the capital of Tatarstan, which will be the highlight of the Russian chairmanship.
Earlier, on 27 November, Lavrov noted that the BRICS association would increase its advantage over the G7 with the arrival of new members on 1 January 2024. He said that the West's goal now is to skim the cream from global politics, economics and other areas to ensure its own well-being. Lavrov added that Western countries were trying to achieve these goals through "neo-colonial methods".

On 11 December, the Russian ambassador in Dar es Salaam, Andrei Avetisyan, said that Tanzania's interaction with BRICS would soon be on the agenda, as Ethiopia will join BRICS on 1 January next year.

The XV BRICS Summit was held in the South African capital, Johannesburg, from 22 to 24 August. After the summit, the South African president announced that the BRICS members had decided to invite Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to join the association. They will become full members of the community from 1 January 2024
