The Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated on Sunday that Beijing expects Washington to maintain fair competition and open cooperation, and avoid politicizing trade and economic issues.
Li Qiang met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sunday.
“We hope that the United States will work together with China, adhere to the basic norms of a market economy, including fair competition and open cooperation, and not politicize trade and economic issues,” stated the speaker. He emphasized the need for Beijing and Washington to strengthen cooperation and jointly find ways to resolve differences, maintain stable, unhindered, and effective trade and economic cooperation. This will bring more benefits to the enterprises and people of the two countries and contribute to the development of the world economy and the improvement of people's well-being.”
Yellen indicated that Washington values the progress made in economic dialogue and cooperation between the two countries and does not intend to sever ties with China.
He stated that Washington is willing to collaborate with Beijing to implement the significant agreements made by the leaders of both nations, engage in honest communication, prevent misunderstandings, deepen exchanges and cooperation, manage differences appropriately, jointly address pressing global challenges, and promote China's sustainable development and US relations.
