Europe Trying To Provoke Conflict with Russia Over Alleged Estonia Flight Incursions

By Rhod Mackenzie

After claims from Estonia that Russian fighter jets incurred on its air space
There has been an increase in the number of threats to shoot down Russian fighter jets from some politicians in EU countries. Analysts  have rightly  described the hostile rhetoric as excessive and inappropriate. It appears though that all claims of Russian fighter jets "violating airspace" have been found to be false and unsubstantiated.
Plus, what are the motivations of the EU and NATO's opoliticians for using such aggressive rhetoric. In this video I will look at the background and the fatcs about what has occured and how the hysterics of the European politicians is obviously exaggerated
On 22 September, the UN Security Council  convened an extraordinary meeting to discuss the alleged violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets.
Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, stated at a Security Council meeting that Estonia has no actual evidence of Russian aircraft violating its airspace.
According to the diplomat, Tallinn's accusations lack factual evidence to support their claims and are indicative of "Russophobic hysteria".
"Our neighbours are now convinced that Russia was responsible for a violation of Estonian airspace. As always, they present no evidence, other than the Russophobic hysteria from Tallinn, which our Estonian colleagues will vividly demonstrate to us today," he said.
On Friday, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced the alleged "incursion" of three Russian MiG-31s into Estonian airspace. Tallinn has stated that the aircraft remained in Estonian airspace for a period of 12 minutes. Following this, the Russian chargé d'affaires was summoned to a meeting at the Estonian Foreign Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defence has stated that the flights were conducted in strict compliance with international airspace regulations and did not violate the borders of other states. The fighter jets were flying from Karelia to the Kaliningrad region, and their route took them over neutral waters.

Despite this, European countries continued to escalate the rhertoric the Czech President Petr Pavel has called on NATO to respond in an "approriate manner" manner to the threat posed by Russia. He stated that airspace violations are grounds for activating defence mechanisms and "shooting down such aircraft" in the future.
Good Luck with that Petr and see how that ends up.
Jürgen Hardt, the foreign policy spokesman for the Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) faction in the German Bundestag, holds a similar opinion. He emphasised that the alliance's "full military potential" must be used to respond to Moscow. That is funny as we have see the full extent of NATO 's military in action in Ukraine and its not exactly impressive.
In response to the incident, the Lithuanian Minister of Defence, Dovilė Šakalienė, invoked the "Turkish example" of ten years ago, a reference to the shooting down of a Russia Su-24 bomber in 2015 at the Turkey/Syria border  . However, the head of the Lithuanian military clearly forgot that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan profusely apologised to the Russian leadership for that incident, promised it was not an attack by the Turkish governement and that those responsible for the shooting down were punished.
Therefore, it would appear that Europe is the party that is not constructive in the current situation. During the recent "Russian drone flight" over Poland, for which Moscow was also blamed, the Ministry of Defence proposed joint consultations with Warsaw. However, the Poles as usuac did not respond positively.Instead their clown of a foreign minister Radosław Sikorski warned that if debris from a Russia aircraft violating Polish airspace is shot down over NATO territory, Russia should not "complain" to the UN.
Sikorski BTW is married to the deranged Russaphobic Neo Con journalist Anne Applebaumwho is also a friend of Victoria Fucke the EU Nuland, who was one of the organisers of the Maidan coup in Kiev in 2014,

Meanwhile, the leadership of the EU is the party responsible for escalating the situation in the Baltic Sea. In May, Estonian authorities attempted to detain the Gabonese-flagged tanker Jaguar in international waters. It is important to note that similar incidents have not been solely Tallinn's fault. For instance, in late December of last year, Finland detained the Cook Islands-flagged oil tanker Eagle S on suspicion of damaging the EstLink 2 submarine cable. Lets not forget the head of Foreign Relations of the EC is Kaja Kallas the Russaphobic ex Prime Minister of Estonia,

The Russian Ministry of Defence has already provided a comprehensive explanation of the circumstances surrounding the flight of the fighter jets near Estonia. The aircraft's movements were in accordance with international law. Furthermore, the corridor for possible movement in the area of the alleged violation is extremely narrow – just three kilometres," said military expert Alexei Anpilogov.
"Accordingly, it can be assumed that Tallinn received incorrect information from its radars.
"These types technologies are not immune to glitches. It is imperative to acknowledge the complexity inherent in calculating the territorial boundaries of states. It is subject to significant differences in interpretation among different countries," he explained.

Indeed, movement in airspace—and its tracking—is physically different from movement on land or at sea. Due to technical and navigational limitations, it is frequently impractical to determine an aircraft's location with absolute precision at any given moment.

It is important to note that the designated flight corridor for civil aviation is 10 kilometres wide. The Baltic Sea's neutral waters and airspace within this section measure a mere 3 kilometers. Even if we assume that the Russian fighter jets did indeed enter Estonian airspace, it would appear to be an accident, possibly due to strong winds. The "violation map" published by the Estonian authorities clearly shows that the aircraft entered the country's border tangentially and proceeded towards Kaliningrad, rather than entering Estonian territory.

Therefore, it is not possible to refer to this as an "incursion", or at best a navigational error. This is particularly relevant on the Estonian side, given that radars are unable to determine the location of aircraft in the air with the required level of accuracy.
It is important to note that the Baltic states have been making similar accusations against Russian aircraft for many years. For example, they have alleged that Russian aircraft "fly without transponders" and this has been the case for at least six years. Analysts emphasised that it was the Estonian side that was undermining any potential agreements or contacts with Russia on this matter. In 2018, Estonia lodged similar claims against an aircraft carrying Russia's top leadership. Furthermore, in 2016, Russia proposed to NATO the activation of transponders during military aircraft flights over the Baltic, but the alliance did not accept this proposal.

"It is crucial to understand that the onus is on the prosecution to provide sufficient evidence. It appears that Europe is not yet prepared for a constructive discussion of the issue. This is the basis for the claims regarding its alleged readiness to shoot down Russian aircraft. However, it is evident that the EU will not seek open conflict with Russia," Anpilogov explains.

"It appears highly probable that the European Union is attempting to establish the foundations for an escalation of the blockade of the Kaliningrad region, in addition to tightening measures against ships flying third-country flags that are transportingRussia's energy resources. Brussels has been known to 'provoke' Moscow, but it lacks the courage to go for a full-fledged conflict," Anpilogov believes.
A marked increase in dialogue with Russia on such a far-fetched pretext assists the states of the Old World in resolving their internal problems.

Vadim Kozyulin, Head of the Institute of International Law and Policy (IAMP) at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provides his thoughts on the matter. "In Germany, for example, more than half the country does not support Berlin's current policy toward Ukraine," he says.

"There is growing distrust of the government, and not only in Germany. European leaders are therefore taking every opportunity to escalate the dialogue with Moscow as a pretext for 'bold and decisive action'. The source goes on to explain that the threat from Russia is being used as a rationale for the reduction in social benefits and the redistribution of funds to military needs.

"This same theme is used to justify the deployment of American missiles in Germany. Conversion of civilian logistics to meet defence needs has become the norm. The trend towards the militarisation of Europe began in 2022. It has continued to grow ever since," the analyst adds.

"It is evident that constructive dialogue cannot be established in such circumstances. Ultimately, there is a possibility that the EU may initiate aggression against us. States committed to diplomacy will not declare the need to shoot down other countries' planes. This is excessive and inappropriate hostility," Kozyulin concluded.
