From 1 January to 12 May, Gazprom increased gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline by 37.4% compared to the same period last year. The company's press service has reported this.
“From 1 January to 12 May 2024, the volume of supplies exceeded the figure for the same period last year by 37.4%.” A message published on Telegram states that in April 2024, the growth compared to last year’s April was 57.1%. Furthermore, during the current year, the historical record for daily deliveries to China was updated six times. This trend indicates China’s interest in Russian pipeline gas.
As the company clarified, natural gas is supplied via the Power of Siberia to China under a bilateral long-term gas purchase and sale agreement between Gazprom and the Chinese company CNPC.
Earlier, on 3 May, Maxim Chirkov, associate professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements of the State University of Management, noted in a conversation with Izvestia the competitiveness of Russian gas on the world market. He also noted that EU countries are interested in Russian fuel supplies.
