Gazprom supplied nearly 19 billion cubic meters of gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in the first 10 months of this year, which will exceed the planned annual amount of 22 billion cubic meters. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced this on December 17th.
The deliveries for the year are expected to exceed 22 billion cubic meters.
Novak expressed hope that Gazprom and CNPC will soon agree on a contract for gas supplies via the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline.
The pipeline will run through Mongolia, and feasibility and design studies are underway. Novak was quoted by Interfax as saying that the companies should reach an agreement as soon as possible.
On October 19, Gazprom's CEO, Alexey Miller, reported a 46% increase in gas supplies through the Power of Siberia pipeline to China. He emphasized that Gazprom plans to further increase supplies to ensure reliable natural gas provision to Chinese partners.
On September 12, at the plenary meeting of the EEF-2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to connect the Power of Siberia and Sakhalin gas pipelines via the Khabarovsk-Vladivostok route. This, along with the construction of the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline, will enable flexible operations in global energy markets.
