German MP Kotret says The West has lost integration power due to BRICS expansion

By Rhod Mackenzie

The attractiveness of the BRICS countries demonstrates that the West has lost its former integration strength, and the world has entered a phase of development of a multipolar world order. This opinion was expressed on August 26 by the member of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany faction, a member of the parliamentary committee on energy and climate protection, Steffen Kotre.

“The attractiveness of the BRICS countries shows that the West has lost its great integration power. Under the leadership of the United States, the West too often sought its own benefit or sought to patronize other states, ”Kotret said in a conversation with TASS.

The parliamentarian stated that, hiding behind the so-called Western values, the leaders of Europe often pursued only their own interests or represented the interests of the United States. However, now emerging markets and countries no longer want to put up with this.

“Double standards have been applied too often. War criminals are always only others. And sanctions affect only the poorest. Time will tell to what extent the BRICS countries are ready to confront the West or consider it as a partner. In any case, the world has entered a phase of development of a multipolar world order, which will be difficult for representatives of the World Economic Forum and other supranational organizations,” summed up the expert Kotre.

Earlier, on August 25, the journalist of the Berliner Zeitung newspaper Ramon Schak wrote that the expansion of the BRICS association was a personal defeat for the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell. He drew attention to the fact that there was a "global shift" in geopolitics. The author added that almost half of the world's population will soon be in the BRICS, among the states there will be the most rapidly developing economies.

On the same day, Alexei Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told Izvestia that the expansion of the BRICS meant the defeat of all supporters of a unipolar world. A new era of relations between the countries is beginning, the parliamentarian stressed.

The BRICS summit was held from 22 to 24 August in Johannesburg, the association was replenished with six countries. These are Argentina, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (originally Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa were members of the BRICS
