In June, industrial production in Russia increased by 6.5%

In June 2023, industrial production in the Russian Federation increased by 6.5% compared to June 2022, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in a statement. In May, the growth rate was 7.1%, in April - 5.2%, in March - 1.2%, in February the decline in industrial production was 1.7%, in January - 2.4%. The growth of industrial production, in particular, was recorded against the backdrop of a low base in June 2022.
In the 1st half of the year, the increase in the indicator was 2.6%.
Compared to May, industrial production increased by 1.5% in June.
Excluding seasonal and calendar factors in June 2023, according to Rosstat, the industry remained unchanged compared to May, after a 0.7% increase a month earlier.
Industry data for May 2023 was better than expected. The consensus forecast of analysts polled by Interfax in early July provided for an increase in industrial production by 6.0% in annual terms.
In 2023, economists expect industrial production to rise by 2.9% (a month ago they expected an increase of 1.7%) after a decline of 0.6% in 2022. The forecast of the Ministry of Economic Development (from April) is more conservative - industrial production growth by 0.2% in 2023.
The main driver of growth is still the increase in output in manufacturing industries (growth by June 2022 - by 13.1%, by May 2023 - by 5.5%), Rosstat notes
The growth of the production index by June 2022 was also demonstrated by the energy sector and industries related to water supply and sanitation, waste management and pollution elimination, by 1.8% and 3.0%, respectively.
However, compared to May 2023, the production index in the electricity and thermal power industry, as well as in industries related to water supply and sanitation, waste disposal and pollution elimination, decreased by 10.7% and 0.1%, respectively.
In the commodity sector, production volumes decreased both by June 2022 - by 1.7%, and by May 2023 - by 1.9%.
Industries that posted significant year-on-year growth in June:

  • production of computers, electronic and optical products - (+71.6%);
  • production of vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers - (+51.7%);
  • production of finished metal products (except for machinery and equipment) - (+45.8%);
  • furniture manufacturing - (+34.3%);
  • production of electrical equipment - (+32.1%);
  • production of tobacco products - (+26.3%);
  • production of other vehicles (including aviation equipment, shipbuilding, etc.) - (+26.1%);
  • production of leather and leather goods - (+17.6%);
  • production of rubber and plastic products - (+15.7%);
  • production of machinery and equipment not included in other groups (including machine tool building, production of metallurgical, - mining equipment, agricultural machinery, etc.) - (+15.1%).
    Industries that have reduced production volumes
  • extraction of other minerals, including stone, crushed stone and sand, - (-14.8%);
  • printing activities and copying of information carriers - (-8.7%);
  • production of beverages - (-1.0%);
  • production of paper and paper products - (-0.5%).
    Food production up 5.4% in June
    Food production in June 2023 increased by 5.4% compared to June 2022, but decreased by 0.4% compared to May 2023. In general, in the 1st half of 2023, food production increased by 5.3% compared to January-June 2022.
    Meat of cattle, pork, lamb, goat meat, horse meat and other animals in June 2023 produced 296.5 thousand tons, which is 6.4% more than in June 2022, but 2.8% less than in May 2023. Production in January-June increased, amounting to 1.8 million tons.
    638.4 tons of fresh or chilled fish fillets were produced in June 2023, which is 1.1% more than in June 2022, but 27.2% less than in May 2023. In the first half of 2023, the output of fish fillets decreased by 2.0% compared to January-June 2022, amounting to 3.2 thousand tons.
    In June 2023, 465.7 thousand tons of milk were produced, which is 2.2% more than in June 2022, but 3.7% less than in May 2023. In January-June 2023, milk production decreased by 1.4% compared to January-June 2022, amounting to 2.8 million tons.
    Bottling of natural mineral water and drinking water amounted to 1.9 billion half liters. This is more than in June 2022 and May 2023, by 16.8% and 2.7%, respectively. 79.9 million deciliters of beer were produced, which is 9.0% and 1.5% less than in June 2022 and May 2023.
    According to Rosalkogolregulirovanie, the production of vodka in June 2023 decreased by 4.3% compared to the same period in 2022, amounting to 6.1 million decaliters. Wine production decreased by 12.5% ​​compared to the same period last year (up to 2.6 million decaliters), sparkling wines and champagne - by 19.3% to 755.6 thousand decaliters.
    The production of passenger cars increased by 3.1 times
    The output of passenger cars in June amounted to 42 thousand units, which is 3.1 times more than in June 2022, but 0.6% less than in May 2023. In the first half of the year, 197 thousand cars were produced, which is 29.9% less than in January-June 2022.
    14.3 thousand trucks were assembled, which is 37.8% more than in June 2022 and 9.4% more than in May 2023. In January-June, 75 thousand trucks were manufactured, which is 5.8% more than in the same period in 2022.
    Trucks with a diesel engine were produced in the amount of 3.7 thousand units, which is 45.5% more than in June 2022, but 1.1% less than in May 2023. For the first half of the year, the output increased by 4.1% - up to 19.1 thousand tons.
