The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has suggested that the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) update the association's development strategy.

“The time has come to adopt a new strategy for the development of the SCO,” Tokayev said during the summit of the association, which is currently being held online with India as the hosts in New Delhi. .

He added that Kazakhstan has already developed a draft document and plans to submit it within its forthcoming chairmanship, TASS reports .

At the same time, Tokayev proposed to create an investment fund within the organization.

“It should be recognized that for more than 20 years it has not been possible to implement a single major economic project under the auspices of the SCO. The obvious factor is the lack of mechanisms for financial support of project activities,” Tokayev said.

In this regard, he suggested considering the possibility of creating a joint investment fund and making proposals on this important project.
