President Putin slaps Great Britain with a large wet fish

By Rhod Mackenzie

The Rusian president Vladimir Putin has slapped Great Britian with a very larg wet fish! Since 1956 an agreement has been in place between Great Britian and what was then Soviet Union that allowed British fishermen to catch fish in their territorial waters in the Berents Sea which is just above and around Norway.Bear in mind that whis agreement was during the Cold War and pre dates the founding of the European Economic Community that became the European Union which Great Britain joined in 1974. After joing the EU,Britain had to share its fishing zones with the other countries of the EU which led to the rapid shrinking of its fishing industry. Once the Soviet Union collapsed,Russia as its succesor continued the agreement with Great Britian which allowed them to continue to catch huge amounts of fish annually. In 2023 alone, thanks to the fishing agreement, the British caught 566 thousand tons of cod and haddock in the Barents Sea.
Now anybody who has visited Great Britian knows all about the 'National Dish of Fish and Chips' every small town in the country has at least one Fish and Chip shop serving a variety of fish coated in beer batter and deep fried in vegetable oil.The major British pub chain Weatherspoons has a Fish Friday where it offers deep fried fish and chips and claims to be the biggest fish and chip seller in the country. If you add this fishing ban on the British fishing in the Barents Sea to the ban by the British on the import of Russian exports of fish to the country then the great Brishish supper could be coming to an end. After all where are the Brisith going to source such vast quantities of particularly cod and haddock which make up 45% of fish sales in Brtian? Its own waters are subject to quotas shared with the countries of the EU and they cannot replace stocks from Russia and the North Atlantic coast of the US and Canada are mainly pollock and other species plus fish prices have risen much higher making the humble fish and chip supper almost a luxury meal.

That is not the only problem facing the 'Fish and Chip shops' in the UK, Russia is one of the largest suppliers of sun flower oil and they are not exporting it to the UK and EU plus supplies from the Ukraine have dried up due to the conflict. So the oil for frying is also becoming more expensive which again adds to costs. If you then add in the higher costs of energy for frying and cooking the fish and chips then its not looking good for the sector in Great Britian.
So it appears that British politicians far from being grateful for the bounty from the sea that Russia gave them for NOTHING instead along with their so called friends in the US/EU and G7 slapped more the 18 thousand sanctions on Russia and will cause the death of the Great British Meal of Fish and Chips.
