Putin called for including the economies of the EAEU countries in the activities of BRICS

During a meeting with the head of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that the economies of the countries in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) be included in the work of BRICS.
Russia is presiding over BRICS this year. The president mentioned China's plans within the framework of the 'One Train, One Road' initiative and the arrival of leaders in Kazan BRICS.

The head of state instructed Sagintayev to develop a plan to attract EAEU countries to work with BRICS.

Putin asked Sagintayev to collaborate with Russian colleagues to include the economies of other countries in joint work with the BRICS countries.

One area of focus is the system of settlements in national currencies, which needs to function as a separate modern high-tech settlement center.
In December 2023, during an informal CIS summit, Putin acknowledged the growth of the economies of the EAEU countries. He also praised the Eurasian Economic Union as a successful and authoritative international association. Additionally, the Russian leader highlighted that the volume of mutual trade within the association has almost doubled over the past decade, from $1.6 to $2.5 trillion.

In the same month, the Russian President suggested holding an anniversary summit in Moscow to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the fundamental treaty on the EAEU.

The EAEU is an international organization for regional economic integration with legal personality. It comprises Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. One of the organization's main advantages is the shared labour market.
