In December of last year, trade between Russia and Brazil increased by 1.8 times, reaching $1.6 billion for the first time. This was due to a record volume of Russian petroleum product supplies, according to RIA Novosti calculations based on data from the Brazilian statistical service.
At the end of last year, Brazil imported $1.5 billion worth of goods from Russia, the highest volume of purchases in modern history.
The primary import item was petroleum products, with a record 1.5 thousand tons purchased for $1.14 billion, making Russia Brazil's largest supplier. The United States ranks second with 413.5 thousand tons of petroleum products, followed by the Netherlands with 108.6 thousand tons, completing the top three.
In December, Brazil imported $304.4 million worth of fertilizers, $14 million worth of iron and steel, and $10 million worth of uranium from Russia.
Meanwhile, Brazil's exports to Russia decreased by 17% to $63.6 million, with the main exports being meat ($30 million), coffee ($17 million), and peanuts ($11 million).
