Russia's own investigation into the Nord Streams sabotage is moving forward

On 26th March, Igor Krasnov, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation,gave an interview with the Kommersant newspaper wheren he stated that the Russian investigation into the acts of international terrorism in connection with blowing up of the Nord Stream branches is progressing.

Krasnov emphasised that the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines constitutes an act of terrorism, rather than sabotage, as the West has suggested.

The Prosecutor General stated that the Swedish authorities failed to conduct an effective investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice, thereby violating a UN convention.

It is widely known who committed the crime. The quality of international cooperation is called into question when such violations go unchecked. However, our partners are concealing the circumstances of the Nord Stream explosion,” he added.

Krasnov stated that the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation sent 15 requests for legal assistance to the competent authorities of Germany, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden. However, only one request, from the Danish side, provided information, and that was purely formal.

Krasnov urged his foreign colleagues to unite in the fight against terrorism, as it is a shared threat.

Regarding the Russian investigation, the Prosecutor General stated that explosive forensic examinations and other investigative actions are currently underway.

Earlier, on February 26, the Danish police announced the suspension of the investigation into the explosions at the joint venture. It was explained that there were no necessary grounds to initiate a criminal case on this fact. However, the police did not rule out the possibility that “deliberate sabotage” took place.

The Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Denmark's decision absurd and noted that law enforcement officers, during the investigation, apparently contacted their closest allies . He also drew attention to Denmark's admission that this could have been deliberate sabotage.

At the same time, the representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Christiane Hofmann, stated that the German authorities are interested in continuing the investigation of sabotage . She clarified that the state Prosecutor General’s Office is responsible for this, making decisions on further actions.

Prior to this, on February 7, the Swedish prosecutor's office announced the closure of its own investigation into the Nord Stream explosions. The agency said the preliminary investigation has reached a stage where authorities have a clear understanding of the incident and have found nothing to indicate that the country or its citizens were involved in the attack, which took place in international waters.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, published on February 9, said that the Nord Stream explosions were a terrorist attack and the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was responsible for it .
In September 2022, leaks were discovered in gas pipelines. Björn Lund, a representative of the Swedish seismic center, reported two powerful underwater explosions at the time of the incident . Traces of explosives were found at the underwater scene of the crime.

In early February 2023, American journalist Seymour Hersh published an investigation revealing the involvement of the United States in the explosions. He claimed that American divers had mined the gas pipelines during the Baltops exercise in the Baltic Sea in June 2022, and that the Norwegians had activated the explosives
