Three Russian enterprises received permits to export pork to China

By Rhod Mackenzie

On Wednesday, Rosselkhoznadzor reported that the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China has registered three Russian pork production enterprises and permitted the export of pig products starting from February 28, 2024.

Only products manufactured after the registration date will be allowed for delivery.

The Chinese side approved applications from Russian enterprises in the CIFER registration system.

According to a statement, the approval of the necessary veterinary certificate and certification of Russian enterprises was the final step towards opening the Chinese market for pork supplies.

The Miratorg Agribusiness Holding, Velikoluksky Meat Processing Plant, and Tambov Bacon (part of the Rusagro Group of Companies) have been granted the right to export their pig products to China, as confirmed by the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor.

On December 19th, during the 28th regular meeting of the heads of government of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China in Beijing, the head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergei Dankvert, and the head of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, Yu Jianhua, signed a protocol on inspection, quarantine, and veterinary and sanitary requirements for pork exported from Russia to China. This document has opened up opportunities for the supply of Russian pork to China for the first time since 2008.

In December 2023, Chinese specialists inspected a number of Russian companies interested in supplying pig products to the Chinese market.

In January of this year, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China notified that it had authorized the import of pork (including edible pork by-products) from the Russian Federation that meets the relevant requirements.

The National Union of Pig Producers predicts that Russian pork will make up to 10% of China's imports in the coming years.
